RitFit PLC01 Leg Extension and Curl Machine Review

Introduction

The RitFit PLC01 Leg Extension and Curl Machine brings one of the most-missed gym machines right into your home gym. Personally, I miss leg extensions and curls the most when training at home versus a commercial gym setup. In this review, I'll give you my initial impressions after a few weeks of using this unit. I plan to follow up after more extended use to see how it holds up over time.

First Impressions and Assembly

The PLC01 arrived in a single, moderately heavy box that was a bit awkward to move. However, it was well-packed, with no signs of damage. The pieces came wrapped in plastic and bubble wrap, and all the hardware was organized in a blister pack. While the included tools aren’t the best, they get the job done, and the setup took me only around 30 minutes from unboxing to the first rep.

As for the materials, they’re typical of RitFit and other budget import brands—functional but with cost-saving choices. While the frame is made of thinner material and the pads of basic vinyl, RitFit did make some excellent design choices, balancing cost with functionality.

Areas for Improvement

One area where the design could improve is in the seat pad. RitFit went with an adjustable back pad to support the lower back during leg extensions, but this feature leaves some room for improvement. The knee alignment with the machine’s axis of rotation feels a bit off, and I noticed a lack of support for the underside of my legs just above the knees.

In my opinion, eliminating the adjustable back pad for a single, longer pad would simplify the design and improve comfort. Many high-quality machines don’t include back support for leg extensions and work just fine. Additionally, a slightly longer seat pad would better support the leg above the knee. The current pad creaks, and I suspect it may be one of the first parts to need replacement.

Strengths of the PLC01

Despite a few drawbacks, the RitFit PLC01 offers significant benefits. This may be one of the best budget leg extension and curl combos I’ve used.

The resistance curve feels smooth and consistent, thanks to an innovative weight-loading mechanism that distributes the load evenly throughout the range of motion. Unlike other budget machines, this one doesn’t make the lift feel easier at the bottom of the movement. RitFit has set the weight horn at an angle, maintaining a consistent resistance throughout the lift.

RitFit also used bushings instead of metal-on-metal joints, which adds to the machine’s smoothness and durability. The aluminum pulley, combined with a nylon-coated steel cable, further enhances performance. The ball joint where the cable meets the leg lever reduces stress on the joint, which should help with long-term durability.

Performance and Comfort

Leg extensions on this machine do a fantastic job isolating and building the quadriceps. Although the maximum weight load is 375 lbs, the machine’s leverage reduces the actual weight felt, making this suitable for most athletes—unless you’re an advanced powerlifter or Strongman. Transitioning to the prone leg curl is easy by adjusting the backrest and leg roller.

The design allows a complete range of motion, and the seat’s side handles are well-placed for support during leg extensions. Although the foam quality on the leg roller and pads raises some longevity concerns, it should hold up well in a home gym setting. The handles feature a commercial-grade rubber finish, providing a comfortable grip.

Practicality for Home Gym Use

Choosing equipment for a home gym often comes down to balancing value, cost, and space. The RitFit PLC01’s 42x51" footprint is space-efficient, but the swing of the arm requires about 48x66" total clearance for full range of motion. This machine offers excellent functionality and a smooth user experience in a compact package, all at a competitive price of $399.99.

Final Thoughts and Recommendation

I have to give RitFit credit for this machine; it feels like a "home run" product. It seems RitFit listened to feedback or simply got lucky with this design, benefiting the end user. With just a few tweaks (like a longer, more durable pad), this machine would be even better.

If you’re looking to bring leg extensions and prone leg curls back into your home workouts, the RitFit PLC01 is a worthwhile investment. I may even look into creating or sourcing a different pad to better meet my durability and comfort preferences.
